 Borrowing Services
  • We lend books, magazines, graphic novels, audiobooks and music on CDs, DVDs and Blu-Ray, video games and Large Print books.
  • We also lend items from our recreation collection, including fishing poles, snow shoes, lawn games, a telescope, binoculars, Wi-Fi hotspots and more.
  • Interlibrary loan - if we don't have it, we'll find it for you.
  • Reserve service for titles that are checked out.
  • E-book and e-audiobook lending to your tablet, mobile phone, tablet-based e-reader or computer with Cloud Library and digital book, audiobook, comic, music, movie and TV shows streaming to your tablet, phone, computer or smart TV with Hoopla.
  • Over 7,500 online magazines in 60 languages available via Cloud Library NewsStand.
  • Maine State Library offers a federally-funded Talking Books program, which provides recorded books and special players free to persons who are blind, visually impaired, physically handicapped or who have a doctor-certified reading disability.  Click here for more information on the program.

Meeting Room Use

In-Person Technology Classes

We’ve partnered with the National Digital Equity Center (NDEC) to offer a series of free digital literacy classes for our community. NDEC strives to provide valuable hands-on experience to empower you with the digital tools you need to navigate today’s world. These classes are in-person at the library.

Registration is required for each class. To register, call us at 207-571-7210, email, or click on the Reserve your spot button next to your class of interest here. Please register as early as possible as class size is limited to 8 people. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please re-submit your registration or contact us. Please note: you will need to fill out a one-time enrollment form for the NDEC when you sign up for your first class.

Notary Public

Notary services are available on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday between the hours of 10:00-4:00, and on Tuesdays from 1:00-5:00. Drop-ins are welcome during these hours. To ensure notary availability and receive the fastest service, email or call (207) 571-7210 to schedule an appointment.

Other Community Services

  • Museum passes to the Children's Museum of Maine, the Portland Museum of Art, and the Maine Wildlife Park.
  • Public computers with Internet access, Microsoft Office programs, and games. By using our computer or Internet resources, users agree to abide by our Internet Safety Policy. Please review our Policies page for more information.
  • Building-wide wireless Internet access. The Wifi network is McArthur Public and it can be accessed from the yard outside the building, as well.
  • Art exhibits.
  • Limited IRS tax form distribution. The federal IRS sends out a limited supply of the 1040 form and instructions to us, typically in early Februrary, but we can also help find and print other federal and state forms and schedules from the IRS and MRS websites at the adult services desk.
  • In-library use of a Sorenson Video Phone for people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
  • Delivery for people who are homebound.
  • Historic photograph and documents collections.
  • Office space for the Biddeford Historical Society and the Franco-American Genealogical Society of York County.

Portland Public Library Cards

  • Residents of York and Cumberland Counties may bring photo ID and proof of address to us and we will give you a Portland Public Library card. This will enable you to borrow materials from the state's largest public library and to take advantage of their many Internet-based services, including downloadable audiobooks and ebooks from Netlibrary and genealogical and business resources, among others.
